Basic Steps to Starting a Termite Company in California
In California, there are 3 branches.
Branch 1 is Fumigation. Branch 2 is Pest Control. Branch 3 is Termite and other wood destroying organisms.
Most real estate companies deal with branch 3 termite companies in regards to termite inspections, termite clearances, etc.
So we'll discuss the basic steps needed in establishing a branch 3 termite company.
1. Find a place to conduct business.
Branch 3 termite companies can be ran out of your
existing office or out of a residence. In some cases, an
apartment or unit.
2. Get a qualifying manager.
The Structural Pest Control Board regulates the termite industry
just like the Dept. of Real Estate regulates the real estate
industry. Before you submit paperwork to the state, you'll need a
licensed operator to fill the title of your qualifying manager
(just like a real estate company must have a broker). To do this,
just email or
call Donald
at (951) 204-3306. I can qualify your company for Branch 1
fumigation, Branch 2 Pest Control and of course Branch 3 termite.
That means that you can operate under one or all three branches.
3. Pick a business name.
The Structural Pest Control Board must approve the name of your
business. Once they approve your business name, you can use that
approved name on your city business license, your tax i.d., your
bank account, business cards and flyers, etc. You'll also need
that Board approved name before being insured and bonded. Fill
out a REQUEST
FOR APPROVAL OF REGISTERED COMPANY form.
4. Get insured and bonded.
After the board has approved your name and now you have your
place of business and your business license, it's time to get
insured and bonded. Review the Bonds
Definition, Insurance Form,
Article 9. Financial
Responsibility and Article 10. Indemnity
Bonds of the California Business and Professions Code,
Division 3., Chapter 14.
5. Fill out the APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION OF
COMPANY form.
Once all the other steps are completed, the board will mail you
forms to fill out, including one called the APPLICATION FOR
REGISTRATION OF COMPANY.
6. Contact your county's agricultural commisioner's
department.
They have forms for you to fill out as well.
If you want, I'll take care of all these steps for you when you hire me as your qualifying manager.
